LEON used in space-based supercomputer design at Los Alamos
The Los Alamos National Laboratory has announced the funding of a new space payload in which the fault tolerant LEON2 processor will be used. The the new space payload will dramatically increases on-orbit computational capabilities. The project is jointly sponsored by the National Nuclear Security Administration's (NNSA) Office of Nonproliferation Research and Development (NA-22), and the U.S. Department of Defense.
The new payload based on a platform of field-programmable gate array (FPGA), on Atmel Corporation's new AT697 RadHard SPARC processor which is based on the LEON2 fault tolerant processor IP core, and on new chalcogenide C-RAM. Read more in the press release
