The fault tolerant LEON3 processor in combination with the recently qualified radiation tolerant ACTEL RTAX2000S FPGA will present a competitive alternative to the processors currently used by the space industry. The processor is offered in standard configurations, including a floating point unit and either MIL-STD-1553, CAN or SpaceWire bus interfaces. The LEON3 on the RTAX2000S FPGA gives a performance which is higher than most space qualified processors currently available at a very competitive price.
- By using the Actel FPGA we are able to launch the LEON3 fault tolerant processor without going through the costly and time consuming process of making an ASIC. We are also able to simultaneously release different configurations of the processor tailored for various applications and spacecraft standards says Per Danielsson the CEO of Gaisler Research AB.

- The LEON processor is a perfect match with the Actel RTAX2000S FPGA providing for the first time a high performance processor on a space qualified FPGA says Ken O'Neill, Director, Military and Aerospace Product Marketing at Actel.?

About Actel

Actel is the leading supplier of aerospace quality FPGAs, Actel Corporation has been providing aerospace designers with products able to withstand the rigors of the harsh radiation environment of space, while maintaining the quality standards demanded by the space community. Actel is continuing its legacy in space, while providing our customers access to products designed in advanced CMOS process technologies, therefore reducing the technology gap between commercial and space applications. Additionally, Actel has made significant leaps in density, and with the addition of RAM, has expanded its horizons into applications that were previously dominated by ASICs. These enhancements have provided customers with high density, high performance products without the penalties of Non Recurring Engineering (NRE) charges and additional risks, including time-to-market.
